Airships, whether canon models or a default model for customization, can be purchased from the shop. They must then be approved in the Airships board before being added to your inventory. Upon approval, you receive a voucher of 2,000 gil to spend on upgrades to the ship - or, simply, 2,000 gil worth of free upgrades.
Ship Information
In order to travel from one locale to another, you either need to purchase an airship ticket through the Highwind Bros. chain or an airship of your own. Once purchased, your airship may take part in quests and plot events in which it might be necessary or helpful. Your ship is automatically given a crew upon approval, and you gain 2,000 gil to spend on upgrades to it.
Upon approval, an airship has 35 HP (Referred to as Integrity within the shop) and two basic turrets to use. In combat, an individual turret can be fired once per turn, and will deal five hitpoints of damage per shot - the amount of damage dealt is one attribute that can be upgraded in the shop. Airships function in a turn-based system of exchanging fire between the two ships. With every shot fired from a turret, it must spend one turn in recharge; you may fire as many turrets as are equipped to your ship, but you will be unable to attack in your next turn as you wait for your turrets to recharge. With the purchase of a certain item, you may dodge a number of turret strikes equal to half of those firing in that turn per turn.
If your airship is destroyed, then it will be reclaimed and restored by the effects of distortional fog, and your ship, crew and yourself will be placed back on the planet your airship last visited.
