CHARACTER NAMELink. (also: Hero of the Goddess; Hylia's Knight; Keeper of the Crimson Loftwing)
CHARACTER DESCRIPTION"Extraordinary. You stand as a paragon of your kind, human." ~ Demise
While not a physically imposing figure, Link, as a student of the Knight Academy, has somewhat of a fit physique. Having a medium build, the young man's skin and hair are both very fair. His eyes are a bright blue, contrasting with the green pointed hat and tunic he normally wears as a member of the graduate class at Skyloft's Knight Academy. His ears are pointed and appear elven; in fact, the majority of the citizens of Skyloft, his hometown, have the same ears. Beneath his tunic is a layer of chain mail, and beneath that is a white long-sleeved undershirt. A silver-buckled belt across his midriff holds a few leather pouches, and a simple sword bandoleer crosses his chest, allowing him to holster a hand-and-a-half sword and a shield at his back. His trousers are a tan hue, and are tucked into sturdy brown boots. He wears thick fingerless gloves that extend into leather vambraces, though the vambrace sections are more of a steel grey in contrast to the brown of the hand sections.
CHARACTER PERSONALITY"Hey, sleepyhead. I know how much you like to sleep in..." ~ Zelda
Before the events of the Fall of Demise, Link could be described as an extremely lazy individual, content to glide (figuratively and literally) through life with his eyes only half-open. Only when his best friend's life is thrust into danger does Link's personality begin to develop besides that of a mediocre student - throughout his journey, the sleepy boy evolves into a confident young man, possessing wisdom in his actions and power in his abilities in spades, but above all, an uncompromised courage and an unbreakable spirit. Having stared death in the face a few times (mostly with an angry glare), Link is extremely protective of those who mean the most to him in his life, and has confidence in his ability to keep them safe. His loyalty is nearly unfathomable.
He is not above a few jokes and barbs, and perhaps a snarky comment, but the young man isn't incredibly eloquent or talkative. It's not that he doesn't like to speak - often, he just doesn't have much to say, unless he's explaining something or being insulted. More often than not, he is around someone who can pick up the conversational slack, as it were (most often Zelda, who is the best at translating his varied expressions).
CHARACTER HISTORY"If you wish to be of help to Her Grace, you must summon a shred of courage and face the trials laid out before you." ~ Impa
As a young orphan of Skyloft, Link's earliest memory is that of receiving his Loftwing. The boy, taken into the Knight Academy and raised alongside the headmaster's daughter Zelda, showed signs of promise even at age six - when his bird came to him, its plumage was a rare crimson, not a mottled brown or light yellow that was so common to the Loftwings of Skyloft. Hailed as the Crimson Loftwing, Link and his bird quickly developed what could be called a "special bond" - that is, it seemed they knew each other inside and out at first sight.
He had always known he wanted to become a Knight of Skyloft. Even if he hadn't been taken under wing by Headmaster Gaepora, excusing the pun, he would have gravitated toward the illustrious career. Of course, out of context, it didn't seem like so much - just defending the populace from the monsters that came out at night, and watching the skies for any wandering children or unprepared adults without a Loftwing to catch them - but it seemed to him that the knights had the strength to protect what mattered to them.
If Zelda had happened to ask, though, he would have blushed and looked away. That explanation seemed so... fantastical, it was embarrassing to admit to his childhood friend that he'd felt as if that strength would be needed one day. Really needed.
Of course, that lurking premonition didn't stop Link from lazing about school. Taking the connection he had with his Loftwing for granted, as well as the bird's speed, he rarely practiced for any tests regarding the capability for flight. The story was similar with his schoolwork - the boy became infamous for his ability to sleep almost more than humanly possible.
The day of the Wing Ceremony opens in a similar vein as many school days before it, with Link, as usual, sleeping in. Zelda's blue Loftwing wakes him suddenly from a strange nightmare, spitting a letter at him before taking its exit. The piece of mail was meant to be both his alarm clock and his reminder that he was to meet Zelda that morning, and so he sets off to see his best friend.
After a much-contrived endeavor to locate his missing bird, and thoroughly defeating his archrival and his lackeys in the Wing Ceremony race, Link and Zelda continue the ceremony together, the young woman playing the part of the Goddess, Hylia, and Link himself in the role of the Goddess's chosen hero.
Neither of them had any idea how parallel this event would be to their destinies.
While on a calm flight with Zelda on their Loftwings, the two find themselves in the center of a mysterious storm, and Zelda falls; Link is unable to catch her as she plummets through the cloud barrier. Returning home unconscious with the help of his Crimson Loftwing, Link is accosted by a worried Gaepora who questions as to the whereabouts of his daughter.
Left alone, Link is then lured outside by a disembodied voice. He follows a floating spirit, whom he recognizes from his dream that morning, to a back "door" of sorts into a chamber inside the Statue of Hylia; within this chamber is enshrined a blade, christened the Goddess Sword, as Fi, the spirit - and Gaepora, interestingly enough - explain to him. It is his destiny to play the part of the "youth" spoken of in a legend handed down from Hylia herself from headmaster to headmaster.
Taking the blade, it becomes his mission to venture beyond the cloud barrier, journeying to the Surface below to "unite earth and sky" and "bring light to the land". However, his real determination is for the sake of one thing and one thing only - to find and rescue Zelda.
Adventuring through unique landscapes - the Faron Woods, Eldin Volcano, and Lanayru Desert - and meeting strange locals - Kikwis, Mogmas, and robots, as well as Gorons and Parella - Link solves several dungeons, fending off an enigmatic yet flamboyant villain by the name of Ghirahim, and learning bit by bit what his destiny entails, all to save his childhood friend.
Arriving just in time to fend off this villain from capturing Zelda and her protector (a mysterious woman named Impa, who had chastised Link for being late and being unable to protect his friend), Link receives Zelda's harp and witnesses the two women disappearing into a so-called Gate of Time that is destroyed before either himself or Ghirahim can follow. Promising bloody vengeance, the man disappears to consider his options; facing the next segment of his quest, Link returns to the place where he had first come to the Surface; a sealed temple guarded by an old woman who may have the answers to his questions.
In order to follow Zelda, he learns he must activate the remaining Gate of Time, which will require him to find three pure flames and bathe the Goddess Sword in them. Returning to each area of the Surface in search of Farore's, Nayru's, and Din's Flames, he uses Zelda's harp and songs he performs with the help of Fi to overcome spiritual Trials set forth for him. He must become as powerful as his sword if he wishes to protect Zelda.
After reaching the last flame, the Goddess Sword transforms into the True Master Sword - a true "blade of evil's bane", with which he can activate the second Gate of Time. Journeying through the Gate, he arrives centuries in the past, meeting Impa, and then Zelda.
His childhood friend explains to him the truth - that she is the mortal reincarnation of the Goddess Hylia, and he her chosen hero. The creation of Fi, the choosing of her knight, and Zelda being the goddess's avatar were three gambits set forth by the Goddess after the last great war, in order to ensure the true destruction of Demise - the greatest evil the world has known. The monster that Link had sealed and re-sealed in front of the Sealed Temple several times over the course of his quest was known as The Imprisoned, the bestial form of this great evil.
In their present, the seal was weakening. In the past that the Gates of Time lead to, mere months after the legendary war, Zelda must willfully enter an eternal sleep, using her powers to strengthen the seal so it may stay intact until Hylia's plan is completed.
In order to free Zelda from this duty, Link must find the Triforce, the greatest power known to mortal man, and wish upon it for the destruction of Demise. This mantle he takes up with melancholy, but also a quiet determination.
Meeting the three dragons Eldin, Lanayru, and Faron, as well as the sky guardian spirit Levias, Link reassembles the "Song of the Hero" and uses it to locate the last trial - in his own hometown of Skyloft. Passing the Trial, he is given the ability to enter the last dungeon; a structure known as the Sky Keep, it emerges from inside the floating island of the Staue of Hylia. He is faced with a puzzle-challenge; the Keep has eight rooms reminiscent of dungeons he had already faced, three of which contain pieces of the Triforce. He successfully reassembles the golden power and re-emerges from the spirit realm in which they are stored atop the Statue of Hylia, where he and Zelda had finished the ceremony a lifetime ago. He wishes on the three triangles for Demise's doom...
and the island of the Statue breaks away from Skyloft, sinking to the Surface below. It descends into the pit containing Demise as if a key fitting into a lock, crushing the once-insurmountable evil and flooding the prison with holy light.
Link returns to the Sealed Temple, the present being at peace. He awakens Zelda from her sleep, and reunites with the Old Woman, and Groose as well - his once-arch rival, now become a hero in his own right. However, their reunion is cut short.
Ghirahim catches them all by surprise and seizes Zelda, carrying her into the still-functional Gate of Time; though his master is dead in this present, in the past he can still be resurrected.
Link is not in time to save Zelda's soul from being consumed by The Imprisoned, allowing the demon to be reborn as Demise. However, he challenges Demise to a duel as Groose guards Zelda's body, learning that she can still be rescued if he is defeated quickly.
Demise wields Ghirahim as Link wields Fi, creating an alternate reality of sky and shallow water in which they will do battle. The Demon King is intrigued by Link's courage, but doesn't hold back in their battle; surviving just barely, Link manages to vanquish Demise anyway, but not before the creature praises Link as to his battle prowess - and curses his and Zelda's descendants, "those with the blood of the goddess and the spirit of the hero" to "wade a blood-soaked sea of darkness for all eternity."
The remains of Demise's darkness are sealed in the Master Sword, where the evil can decay without standing the risk of surviving in the world. And so, the Demon King is destroyed.
The alternate reality also begins to dissolve around Link, though instead of finding himself in the pit before the Temple of Hylia, he sees unfamiliar trees rising around him...

"Hello there. You've just arrived in the Distorted World. Why don't you tell me your name, and the first thought going through your head right now?""..." "What?" "Where's Zelda?"
"That's certainly interesting... forgive me if I don't know what to say to that. So tell me, where are you from?"Link frowns. "... Skyloft."
"Can't say I've ever heard of it. Well, tell me about yourself. What do you do? What are some of your likes and dislikes?"Link's eyes narrow. "They call me a hero.""I need to find Zelda... I hope she's all right." "I'm a knight."
"Ah, that's amazing! And not only do we have some things in common, you're quite the looker, too, aren't you?"He blinks.
"There's no need to be shy. They always say, if you've got it, flaunt it, right? Anyway, enough about that. Who are you allied with?""... The Goddess." [ SOLDIER OF LIGHT ]
"I'm sure you have your reasons... Oh, on another note, how tall are you?"Link frowns again. [ Five foot eight. ]
"Drat! Just four inches too tall. Although... hmm, would you mind if I asked you on a date? Don't worry, I'll buy."Link shakes his head.
"Finding a venue might be a bit difficult, anyway, since I have no idea where we are... tell me where this is, again?""..." [ THE SUNLETH WATERSCAPE ]
"Ah, how could I forget? I'd love to vacation here someday, when it's not so foggy... It's scenic, you know?""....."
"Well, thank you for the lovely conversation! I'm afraid I'll have to be leaving you, though, since I'm going to explode in about three seconds anyway. Buh-bye now!"Link raises an eyebrow. "Uh... okay..."
"Fi, where are we?"
"My apologies, Master Link. My analysis is not yet complete. However, I am able to conclude that our location is not one you have previously visited. The flora of this location bears a 2% correspondence with known flora of the Faron Woods. I will contact you when more data is available."

RP SAMPLEit was almost easy, after a while, to pretend she was the only one around. far from the hyper-tense alertness she had fallen victim to as a l'cie, lightning ignored the idea of any threat around her, expressing single-minded focus upon her task.
she remembered words spoken to a young man, once. the idea of this "strategy". how long ago the gapra whitewood seemed, though it couldn't have happened but two months before.
icy eyes skimmed over the populace as she passed through them, seeing nothing but their body language. somewhere, she figured this could probably be counted as "disturbing the peace", but she ignored the thought as she continued looking - for what? a way out? peace and quiet? a friendly face?
or perhaps a reaction beyond stunned silence. she had not noticed her pace quickening, until she had a reason to stop and turn; a young voice, not loud or high-pitched, but still piercing in the near-silence, coming from her left.
”what’s this, a damsel in distress?”
lightning frowned, her instinct to rebuke cowed by a small detail: is that a tail?
the young man came closer, sporting an infernal grin that reminded her, irrationally, of a tall and broad blonde and the urge to punch -
”can’t say we get many of those here anymore.”
there were about ten different ways in which lightning wanted to respond to that, but the least barbed statement was the one that made it out of her mouth, much to her chagrin. "and why's that?" the woman queried flatly, folding her arms.
she just knew... this boy was going to be trouble. she could feel it.
