CHARACTER NAMECid Raines.
CHARACTER DESCRIPTIONCid Raines is perhaps one of the taller characters of Cocoon, standing at six foot six inches. Build-wise, Raines is your average muscled man, though not grossley so, instead having a more toned body. Compared to Snow Villiers, a man an inch taller than him and with the same build, Raines is actually smaller than Snow, also being slightly more agile as well, and it is just the Wide-area Response Brigade/Guardian Corps uniform that Cid wears that makes him appear to be bigger.
The uniform itself is primarily white coloured, however there are elements of blue, dark grey and a minimal amount of orange in Raines's uniform. It's extravagent in decorations, but Raines has become so used to it that it rarely ever gets in his way while fighting, and he is glad for the plentiful layers, as they do soften blows. The uniform has a white cape over his left arm, extending to mid-shin level, with a blue cape over the top that at most reaches his waist. To complete the work attire is what seems to be a white PSICOM uniform, yet still retaining elements of the Guardian Corps. When not working, Raines tends to wear formal clothes, however there is always a pair of gloves to accompany Raines -- a habit picked up in order to hide the dark secret of being a Cocoon l'Cie, pawn to Barthandelus.
Raines's skin tone is pale, though not white-as-a-ghost pale. His hair is black, styled neatly and reaching, at most, the base of his neck in length. The colour of Cid's eyes tend to vary, from a pale green colour to a light blue, and even to a hazel-gold colour.
CHARACTER PERSONALITYSurprisingly, Cid Raines is not what you would expect to be like, considering his status as a member of the Sanctum, high ranking, and later on the Primarch of Cocoon at its fall. He's quite friendly, honourable, and courageous. He's laidback, as well, though not too laidback so as to put himself at an advantage. Though it seems he is a professional man, he likes to be informal, but he does know when he needs to be serious and formal. As he is laidback, Raines is calm, and he's able to keep his cool in various situations, however there are times where he snaps. Despite this he does his best to guard his negative feelings and keep them from coming up to the surface, as he wanted to keep a positive atmosphere aboard the Lindblum, from when he was the Cavalry's leader. He believed that if he panicked, the soldiers would be, he believed that his fear would become his soldiers' fear, and that his sadness would be his soldiers'. Cid's determination to overthrow the fal'Cie was a positive feeling, and the determination was able to spread about the Wide-area Response Brigade. This determination awoke a highly passionate side to Raines, and he was deadset on overthrowing the fal'Cie rule and keeping the people of Cocoon safe and happy -- including his soldiers.
Raines is both physically and mentally talented. Despite being at a young age, he managed to gain the rank of brigadier general and head of the Cavalry at twenty-two years old. Due to his cool headedness, he is perfectly able to think on his feet, and thus able to strategise a new battle plan should things not go his way. He's highly observant, too, able to piece things together easily, however due to his constant hypersomnia he can be, on some days, rather slow. This only usually happens when he's slept for more than seven hours (and is why you often see Raines doing work at 5am after he's slept for two hours).
CHARACTER HISTORYCid Raines went to military academy in Eden at fourteen years old, and at eighteen years he took an airship test, which took him right into the Cavalry. This test also broke the previous record which had been held for fifteen years. At twenty-one, Raines became the second in command of the Cavalry, and a year later the leader died in battle, which bumped Cid to the top of the Wide-area Response Brigade. In this year, he took a group of soldiers to Edenhall to try and topple the fal'Cie, however the soldiers were all turned to Cie'th, and Raines came out with the mark of the l'Cie on his right hand. His Focus was highly blurred at this time, and he could make no sense of it, and a year later he woke up from a dream with his Focus clear in his head. Cid Raines was to aid the newly made group of Pulse l'Cie in the destruction of Cocoon.
However, in the Fifth Ark, Cid Raines went against his Focus and fought the l'Cie, becoming a human-Cie'th hybrid in the process. After the battle, the weird happened -- Cid Raines crystallised, and he went against his Focus. When he awoke just a mere few minutes later, with not a clue as to why he crystallised, Raines found himself in Eden, with the Focus of creating destruction on Cocoon, and with the rank of Primarch. When the l'Cie invaded Eden, the Cavalry came to Raines's office. Raines requested that Rygdea end his life and give him freedom, and so he did. Cid Raines died at twenty-four years old, or so he thought.
He awoke in a strange world, surrounded by a discombobulating fog, with only a few pieces remaining of his old life.

"Hello there. You've just arrived in the Distorted World. Why don't you tell me your name, and the first thought going through your head right now?"Rygdea, did you go against my orders...? Who is this person?
"Cid Raines..." There is a pause, and then the man looks up, his eyes flashing with momentary fear. "Cocoon, is it safe?" A pause, and then another look of fear that is quickly shut away. "The Distorted World?"
Is Cocoon--
"That's certainly interesting... forgive me if I don't know what to say to that. So tell me, where are you from?""Eden, on Cocoon..." You can hear an almost depressed tone in his voice.
Is Cocoon... Did the l'Cie fail?
[ final fantasy xiii canon. ]
"Can't say I've ever heard of it. Well, tell me about yourself. What do you do? What are some of your likes and dislikes?"Have I lost?
"I was a Brigadier General of the Guardian Corps, of the Sanctum. I was however promoted to the rank of Primarch... Though I... Not any more."
I can't tell them if they're a l'Cie. What if they failed in defying their Focus? What if they destroyed Cocoon? And survivors? They would know. This person could be a survivor, and thus against l'Cie. ... Survivors? That would mean I survived, that Rygdea didn't pull the trigger and end my life... ... But surely, there shouldn't be any survivors if the l'Cie failed and brought about Cocoon's end--
"Ah, apologies," there seems to be a stronger tone to Raines's voice all of a sudden. "This fog... It seems to be making me lose focus. My likes and dislikes? I enjoy engineering, airships especially, and then being in the skies. Legends and history are also a passion of mine, and freedom. I dislike feeling trapped, feeling like a puppet to the fal-- feeling like a puppet and being forced to do things, and then, like many people, I dislike being alone."
I need to stop thinking about it. I need to be optimistic. Maybe Rygdea knocked me unconscious -- that could explain the massive headache that seems centred on the right side of my head -- so that I could see Cocoon again... and perhaps the l'Cie did change their Focus. Maybe I succeeded in helping them.
"Ah, that's amazing! And not only do we have some things in common, you're quite the looker, too, aren't you?"Amazing? I understand, but... Are they foreign? It's a possibility, but it seems that they don't know who I am, so I'm safe, it would seem.
"I can't say I haven't had many compliments. Thank you, and you yourself are quite the looker, too."
"There's no need to be shy. They always say, if you've got it, flaunt it, right? Anyway, enough about that. Who are you allied with?"Who... am I allied with? It's safe to say I'm not completely with the Sanctum and the fal'Cie, but I don't understand... I guess whichever will get me in the least trouble before I can understand what is going on. If I say wrongly, then I may be shot. Raines was eyeing the stranger warily.
"Whoever is for the people of the world, to keep them safe and happy."
[ survivor. ]
"I'm sure you have your reasons... Oh, on another note, how tall are you?""I do, correct... Oh! This question came out of nowhere. I'm six foot six. The only person I know who is taller than me is a man called Snow Villiers."
"Drat! Just four inches too tall. Although... hmm, would you mind if I asked you on a date? Don't worry, I'll buy.""I'm afraid I will have to decline, at least until I'm a little less busy and I know who you are!"
[ raines is demisexual. he won't start a relationship until he feels more connected to a person. in terms of hetero and homosexuality, raines leans more over to those of his own gender, but it's safe to say that he is bisexual. ]
"Finding a venue might be a bit difficult, anyway, since I have no idea where we are... tell me where this is, again?"Cid looks about then, a look of recognition in his eyes though also clouded with confusion. "This is the Sunleth Waterscape?"
"Ah, how could I forget? I'd love to vacation here someday, when it's not so foggy... It's scenic, you know?""It is, very much so..." Raines seems to be troubled.
"Well, thank you for the lovely conversation! I'm afraid I'll have to be leaving you, though, since I'm going to explode in about three seconds anyway. Buh-bye now!""Goodb-- Wait, what, explode-- WHOA! Okay then, y-you weren't joking!"

"Would Cocoon fall the same fate if it were headless?"
He stopped, faltered, and he looked as though he was considering something. Without him, Cocoon would fall fast and the populace would panic, they would have no one to calm them and the nation's fall would definitely be guaranteed. If he was there, if he refused to kill himself today, he would prevent the destruction of Cocoon, he would slow it down, perhaps even survive this war and defeat Archades.
And, if he died, who would run Cocoon? Who had the same dream as him? Who out of those people were able to work like him? Raines bit his lip a little, confusion in his eyes. He was lost in his thoughts again, eyes half closed as he stared at the floor, never noticing the water flowing beneath his white boots.
"I can not say whether you will make the right decision or not. I can say however that with your death, Cocoon will fall to Archades without fail."
What followed those words was the wake up call he needed. Pale green eyes widened when he saw water rise up above him, drop down on him like he was asleep and a soldier threw a bucket of water over his head -- and that was exactly what happened. Raines now stood there, half drenched, eyes wide as he stared at Cymru.
"With you in command, Cocoon will have a chance to win against Archades. As her leader, why would you allow yourself to seek death, when your death is what would fail her so?"
"I... You're right," he stood there, a drowned puppy expression on his face as he blinked slowly, but his eyes shone with newfound motivation. "Cocoon needs me, she needs a leader that can lead her through the war," he looked at the edge, the edge he so wanted to jump over only a minute ago. "If I die, no one will succeed me, and Archades will take over. We will be but a colony, and only a year after we gained our freedom from the fal'Cie."
Cid Raines looked directly at Cymru, a strong look in his eyes that seemed to dry off his body.
"I won't commit suicide."
