CHARACTER NAMEBalthier/ Ffamran mied Bunansa
CHARACTER DESCRIPTIONBalthier is a good looking man of twenty three who stands at roughly six feet with light brown hair. His eyes are a similar shade of brown, and he always keeps himself clean shaven. Despite his rather unassuming looks, he's actually quite wealthy, as evidenced by his embroidered vest and the several rings he usually wears.
Beneath his vest is a white shirt with rather puffy sleeves of appropriate Shakespearean appearance, though not to the point they would impede his movement. A set of earrings are set in to his ears, and he also wears a variety of bracelets. His trousers are surprisingly normal save for two satchels hanging from his waist, and he wears metal sandals with open backs. Balthier wields a variety of weapons in battle and is extremely versatile, but his weapon of choice is a rather ornate set of guns, of which he always has at least one on his body be it a pistol or a rifle.
CHARACTER PERSONALITYBalthier is a shrewd, cunning man with an affinity towards the extravagant. He thinks big, and to some extend lives big. While he's not one to put himself in danger, he does enjoy showing off as much as one would think he does. He favors sarcasm in his humor when he uses it, and is fond of using his wit to get him out of situations-- And on occasion, in to them as well. He's notably cynical about things, which tends to creep in to his humor.
He doesn't particularly care for deep relationships, but he flirts with men and women alike, men simply for the pleasure of irritating them and women out of some form of chivalry. While Balthier is a scoundrel and a pirate, he is still quite noble and willing to lend a hand when he deems it appropriate (Or when he's forcibly dragged in to the situation). He is infinitely sure of himself, to the point he refers to himself as 'the Leading Man', though he does so with good reason. He has a way of coming off as self-centered, and while this may have some amount of truth, he's not quite so narcissistic as he comes off as.
CHARACTER HISTORYBalthier is a dashing young rogue that is actually the third son of Cidolfus Demen Bunansa. Even as a child, Balthier showed amazing aptitude for combat and his sharp mind was even then enough to outwit more people than one would expect. This led to him being made an Archadian judge at the young age of Twelve. The young man, however, had no real love for the position, and when his father returned from a trip with quite a bit of sanity slippage he found a bit more strain than he would have hoped for. When he was finally done putting up with everything, Balthier disappeared along with an experimental airship that he later named the Strahl. With his ship and companion Fran, he became an infamous sky pirate with an ever increasing bounty on his head and eventually the fact that there was a missing Archadian judge was forgotten.
Balthier's involvement with the Empire ended up coming back to bite him later however. When he found himself tied up in a civil war between the newly conquered Dalmasca and the Empire, he decided to help the princess Ashe reclaim her title and perhaps cause some damage to the empire along the way and gain enough riches to comfortably tuck away in some quiet, remote village. While he was hesitant most of the way, Balthier proved himself an invaluable asset with his partner Fran. He apparently died when he maneuvered the Sky Fortress Bahamut in to a crash landing that would prevent it from crushing the city of Rabanastre. A year later, however, Vaan and Penelo noticed that the Strahl was missing from their care, and found a note claiming that he'd found the treasure he'd been after, as well a as a decently sized sack of Gil in repayment for keeping his ship for him...

"Hello there. You've just arrived in the Distorted World. Why don't you tell me your name, and the first thought going through your head right now?""To be frank, my only thought right now is how you managed to get aboard a moving airship several hundred feet off the ground. Rather impressive feat all the same, so I suppose if you haven't shot me already you aren't here for that. Balthier, at your service. You could say I'm the leading man of this little story."
"That's certainly interesting... forgive me if I don't know what to say to that. So tell me, where are you from?""Interested in me already? My, that was quick. I think I'll leave you in suspense for a while." Balthier spins his chair so he's not facing the interviewer. (Archades)
"Can't say I've ever heard of it. Well, tell me about yourself. What do you do? What are some of your likes and dislikes?""What do I do? Perhaps you should answer that yourself, I'm quite at a loss as to how you even got here. Hm? Won't tell me? Pity, I was looking forward to hearing that story. And you're asking me these questions because...? Hm. Well then, I suppose I just won't answer until you do." Balthier spins back around to stare intently at the interviewer. (Likes; Airships, flying, sky pirating, not being tied down, seeing how high his bounty can get | Dislikes: Those who attempt to order him around, cats, dirtying his clothes, being captured, the Strahl being damaged)
"Ah, that's amazing! And not only do we have some things in common, you're quite the looker, too, aren't you?""Not very subtle with our flirting, are we? Come now, you can do better than that, I'm sure..."
"There's no need to be shy. They always say, if you've got it, flaunt it, right? Anyway, enough about that. Who are you allied with?""Me? Allied? Hah, I think you've mistaken me for someone else. Oh, you're asking me seriously? I suppose I'd rather like to see Ivalice put back together; other than that I don't believe I care. After all, if I can land a continent and avoid crushing anything I don't suppose this land will be much a problem either. Well, nothing important leastways." (Paladin)
"I'm sure you have your reasons... Oh, on another note, how tall are you?""Why ask me?" (6'0")
"Drat! Just four inches too tall. Although... hmm, would you mind if I asked you on a date? Don't worry, I'll buy.""A bold one, aren't we? Unless your concept of courship involves flying to remote storehouses and looting the valuables, I doubt I'd be interested in whatever it is you're wanting to do. And in any case, I'm not particularly interested in a long term relationship." (Asexual)
"Finding a venue might be a bit difficult, anyway, since I have no idea where we are... tell me where this is, again?""Bhujerba, of course. I take it you're not from Ivalice, then."
"Ah, how could I forget? I'd love to vacation here someday, when it's not so foggy... It's scenic, you know?""Quite so, I should think. Usually you would have a stunning view if not for this blasted fog. It's interfering with a number of things actually, the scanners go completely wild close enough to borders."
"Well, thank you for the lovely conversation! I'm afraid I'll have to be leaving you, though, since I'm going to explode in about three seconds anyway. Buh-bye now!"Balthier raises his eyebrows and turns back around "You people get stranger and stranger with each meeting. I suppose if I wanted to stop the meetings, I'd simply give up sky pirating. If you're going to explode, do me a favor and step out of the Strahl; blood stains are notoriously difficult to get out of anything, and this happens to be my favourite vest."

RP SAMPLEThe red-tinted vision of her combat mode faded gradually, small text scrolling up the side of her vision. Reboot codes, the usual report of errors plaguing her systems. It was the usual case when re-awakening; as a precautionary measure, she had set her default operating status to combat mode, in the event she was captured. Her photoreceptors slid open, bright light temporarily flooding her vision until the automatic adjustment finished. Eldin's uncorrupted data files implied that she had been damaged significantly before entering a shutdown status, but observing herself now... someone had repaired her.
She sat up on what looked to her like a medical bed, but much less advanced than ones she was used to seeing. She turned her head to peer about, but before she could turn her head much she felt a tug on the other side of her, and reaching up felt several cables connected to the side of her head. It led to a power generator nearby. The last vestiges of red tint faded from her sight, the world rendering itself in its proper colors now. She was in a residential tent with many scientific objects strewn about. Eldin gave the cable screwed in to her head a single tug to restore her ability to move, closing the small port it had been hooked in to. She observed that she had been clothed in a white lab coat with white garments beneath, swiveling a bit to make the fabric flit about. She did enjoy wearing clothes, even if she didn't need them.
The automaton exited the empty tent and looked around. Metal scaffolds wound around what looked to have been a town square, many machines of unknown make scattered about. Some were more advanced than others, but none of them matched her level of technology, and the various people wandering about spoke of research. An archeological investigation site of a sufficiently advanced precursor society, her databanks offered up. But oddly, she could not place what society it may have been. The sun was blotted out an instant later, and her gaze turned upwards to a huge mechanical form in the sky. It was an automaton as well, though its make was far more advanced than anything she had seen before. It was too far away to conduct a proper analysis, but the idea that there were sufficiently advanced machines was slightly troubling. That meant the Federation could easily sum up means to contact the planet.
"Well lookit that, the Director fixed it up after all," a man in a uniform said from a distance, pointing at her. He was far enough away that a human would have been unable to hear him, but her auditory receptors were more sensitive than the average life form. "Someone'd better get him before it decides to wander off" he said, and a woman in a similar uniform trotted off to the largest tent, which judging by the energy readings coming from it also contained the command center. Since it seemed that the researchers were already sending for the person that had repaired her, she remained where she was for the moment, observing her surroundings. Perhaps here would be a good place to blend in. A scientist would definitely understand the benefits of a tireless worker with a large information database... and maybe someone here could fix her errors.
After a minute or so, Eldin noticed a man with silver hair coming in her direction in a uniform slightly different than the rest. The director, no doubt, or a fill in. She offered a smile as he approached, extending a mechanical hand towards him. "Hello! It is to my knowledge that you are the leader of this group, or is my observation wrong? I am Eldin, it's a pleasure to make your acquaintance sir." Eldin gave a deep bow to the man, still smiling as warmly as she was able. If nothing else, she could use the computers here to clear her databanks and buy her systems more time to continue functioning..
