Monsters of all sizes patrolled Besaid, scratching at doors, attempting to claw through walls and windows, some of them tearing apart things left lying outside. The fog seemed to have deepened with their presence, and the only one out of a safe place was a single man still fighting. He wore a garish yellow Blitzball uniform, and was wielding a broadsword of moderate size. He defended the temple and a fallen comrade, and when he saw the group arriving to help he shouted immediately. "Hoy! We're being overrun! Help us, de summoner is still inside!" he cried, an impressively sized monster smacking him in to the temple as several more followed suit. The large monster, too large to fit through the opening, turned to the group of Balthier, Cloud and Lightning approaching and bellowed loudly enough that the ground shook. Several others took notice and growled as well, two in particular taking an interest in the unconscious body of the blitzball player's compatriot, dressed much more moderately in a flowing blue robe. Things would get interesting, that was for sure... ------------------ _____________________________ <Summoner's Trial: Mission Objectives> -Defeat the monsters attacking Besaid... or aid them in killing their enemies. -Protect Gol and Anbjorn ------------------- ______________________________ <Defeat the monsters> [Units present: 8] [Units: Goblin (2), Behemoth (1), Dragoon Nobody (2), Shadow Heartless (3)] [hp=45/50] [Behemoth] [hp=20/40] [Goblin A] [hp=20/20] [Goblin B] [hp=30/30] [Dragoon A] [hp=10/30] [Dragoon B] [hp=10/10] [Heartless A] [hp=10/10] [Heartless B] [hp=10/10] [Heartless C] ------------------ __________________________ <Defend Gol (Unconscious)> [hp=30/60] [Gol] [Units present: 2] [Units: Zombie Cie'th (2)] [hp=25/30] [Zombie A] [hp=30/30] [Zombie B]

"Do try to keep up. I've already saved at least one of you once before," Balthier said, casting a glance over his shoulder in Lightning's direction. "Keep the big one off of me and we'll have no worries from the smaller parties." He instructed calmly, almost like he was commenting on the weather. He didn't wait for a response, ignoring most of the monsters in favor of the one being attacked by the zombies. They were horrible looking creatures, but that just made getting rid of them that much easier on the mind. When he drew close, the butt of his rifle snapped forward to strike the wounded beast in the face before he spun the barrel around to face it and let off a shot . Three more followed in quick secession, two for the knees and another for the chest as Balthier backpedaled. That was all the ammo he'd been able to load, and after a moment the lumbering beast collapsed to its knees and fell backwards. He smirked, though there was a twinge of worry to it; he was now fighting with an unloaded gun. Well, he'd have to rely on his skills at reloading quickly or risk getting more monster guts on his clothes than what had already accumulated. Combat was just too messy... "Don't worry about me; get rid of that beast and these little ones will probably scatter... but that's your call," Balthier called out, stopping with a boot in front of the fallen man's shoulder. He hoped offhandedly that this would be entertaining, at least. --------------------- ___________________________ {Balthier} Combat PragmistUses whatever means necessary to finish off enemies quickly and minimize damage. "Don't worry about me; get rid of that beast and these little ones will probably scatter... but that's your call."
As soon as Cloud heard the cunning man say that he immediately focused his attention on the Behemoth. It was a pretty large creature, but nothing an Ex-SOLDIER couldn’t handle. Just before he went and attacked the monster, Cloud looked around to see what other enemies the hero's would face. As he scanned the area he noticed two goblins, two dragon nobodies, three shadow heartless, and two zombies over by Gol. After taking in his surroundings Cloud then fixated his eyes at the Behemoth. This was probably the tank, so to speak, of the surrounding monsters and if killed, the others may disperse.
Cloud took off in a full sprint toward the large beast, hoping to catch it off guard. The Behemoth was prepared, however, and as soon as Cloud went to strike it, its horns met with Cloud's sword. The blue eyed man and the monster were interlocked with each other, fighting to get an edge in the battle. The Behemoth was strong and sturdy but wasn’t agile and Cloud knew this. With that being said, he kept the sword interlocked with the Behemoth's horns and jumped off the ground, flipping onto its back. The beast would try to roll and knock Cloud off. He knew that too and a few moments after landing on the Behemoth's back he jumped again, but this time landing on the ground behind the opponent. The Ex-SOLDIER took up his massive sword and swung it at the hind leg of the Behemoth. It was a solid hit and caused the monster to roar in pain. Cloud wasn’t finished there, however, and ran up the beast's back. As he got almost to the neck area, he flipped off so that he was face to face with the monster.
“Fire!” he yelled as he threw his hand forward toward the Behemoth's face. A small orb of fire erupted from his palm and impacted straight into the face of the monster. As the orb scorched its face, Cloud landed on the ground and waited for the Behemoth to strike back.

The creature growled deeply in response, squaring its four legs as it stared down the "intruders", momentarily distracted from its original prey. Other enemies nearby, a few she didn't recognize, and what she was sure had to be a pair of Cie'th - their forms were barely visible through the thickening fog, but her blood ran cold at the sight nevertheless.
She was beginning to regret signing on for the task, but not for the mission itself, oh no. It was for her "comrades", Balthier and Cloud or whatever their names happened to be (remembering them correctly wasn't high on her list of priorities by any extent of the imagination). The quiet one, Cloud, he wasn't much of an issue. From the way he kept his mouth shut and leaped forward to engage the Behemoth without any prompting, Lightning wondered if perhaps he had been a soldier himself.
In stark contrast was the flamboyant and cocksure gunner, who fell immediately to issuing half-orders and ironic comments as he picked off a few of the Behemoth's strange lackeys. She wasn't a fan of Balthier at all, that was for certain.
Pushing her misgivings away, Lightning scowled at the horde of enemies that her compatriots had already begun to cut into. "Well, come on then," the rose-haired soldier growled, and took off at a sprint towards her first targets - the group of three diminutive creatures that resembled ants the size of cats, and were pitch-black in appearance.
As she swung her sword around herself, slicing through the circumference of the air and Blitzing the three enemies, her momentum continued her forward and past them - flinging out the gloved palm of her empty hand, she summoned the magic that flooded her system despite the absence of a l'Cie brand, with a cry of "Thundara!" as she dropped a small lightning storm on the heads of the twisted mockeries of humans that crept towards the unconscious bodies.
Cie'th. Damn it.
